Professional Biography
Dr. Saeed Akhtar, MD, MPH, FACS, is a distinguished transplant surgeon and the Chairman of the Board of Governors at the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute & Research Center (PKLI&RC), Lahore. A Professor of Urology and Transplant Surgery and Diplomate of the American Board of Urology, he returned to Pakistan after a successful international career to help build PKLI into a premier center for kidney and liver transplantation and care. Under his leadership, PKLI has performed thousands of major surgeries, including nearly 2,000 kidney and liver transplants, and has played a central role in national efforts to address hepatitis C and other liver diseases. Dr. Akhtar has also represented Pakistan on global platforms, advocating for a coordinated national program to eliminate hepatitis C and improve access to advanced healthcare services for underserved populations.
