Professional Biography

Dr. Muhammad Ansar is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Quaid‑i‑Azam University, Islamabad, where he leads research in human genetics and inherited disorders. Since 2003, his work has focused on identifying genes responsible for conditions such as hearing impairment, intellectual disability, and retinal diseases, particularly within the Pakistani population. He completed a two‑year postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Molecular & Human Genetics, Baylor College of Medicine (USA), gaining expertise in next‑generation sequencing and data analysis. Dr. Ansar is a member of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences and the American Society of Human Genetics, and has received multiple awards including the Pakistan Academy of Sciences Gold Medal (2010) and the Prof. A.R. Shakoori Gold Medal in Biological Sciences (2016). His research group has published more than 100 peer‑reviewed international journal articles and has contributed to genetic counseling for families affected by inherited disorders.
