Biography

Dr. Ayesha Mohyuddin is a distinguished human geneticist and academic leader with over three decades of experience in molecular biology, human genetics, medical education and translational research. She began her scientific career in 1994 at the Biomedical and Genetic Engineering Division of Dr. A.Q. Khan Research Laboratories and completed her PhD in Human Genetics in 2001, producing the first comprehensive DNA-based compilation of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) frequencies across major Pakistani ethnic groups.

Her research has contributed significantly to population genetics, forensic genetics, mutation screening and the genetic basis of diseases including rheumatic heart disease, cancer and inherited eye disorders. She spent nearly a decade teaching at Shifa College of Medicine, where she developed and implemented an innovative Molecular Medicine curriculum for medical undergraduates.

Since joining the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) in 2017, Dr. Mohyuddin has played a key role in establishing the NUMS Institute of Advanced Studies and Research, a state-of-the-art translational research facility. In recognition of her outstanding scientific contributions, she was awarded the Pride of Performance by the President of Pakistan, received the Junior Scientist Award from the Pakistan Academy of Medical Sciences and was selected as a Young Affiliate of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS).
