Biography
Dr. Alaa H. A. AbouZeid is an accomplished Global Public Health Executive and Professor of Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. With extensive international experience in managing large-scale health emergency responses, strategic leadership, and operational research, he has dedicated his career to driving health system transformations during complex crises.
Dr. AbouZeid recently served as a Senior Program Officer with the Emergency Team at the Gates Foundation in the USA (2024–2025), where he led key public health preparedness and response grant portfolios. Prior to this, he spent many years with the World Health Organization (WHO) in prominent leadership roles, including Emergency Team Lead in Afghanistan, Emergency Operation Manager for the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (EMRO), and Health Cluster Coordinator in Yemen, Somalia, among other countries. He has authored more than 60 scientific publications and has received multiple WHO Director-General Awards of Excellence for his emergency operations.
