Professional Biography

Dr Humayoon Shafique Satti is currently working as assistant professor at the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) since August 2018. Before this, served as scientific officer in the stem cell research laboratory of Armed Forces Bone Marrow Transplant Centre, Rawalpindi. His research interest revolves around two core areas; clinical genetics and stem cell research, particularly mesenchymal stem cells. He has 32 publications in national and international research journals on different topics in these research domains. Dr Satti earned his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad in 2017 where his dissertation work involved exploring therapeutic potential of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in different clinical conditions, including graft versus host disease (GVHD) and spinal cord injury. The other area of his research expertise is clinical genetics with a focus on genetics of hematological and other recessive diseases. using NGS data analysis of exome datasets, RNA expression studies, and blotting assays. He is currently running two research grants funded by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and Pakistan Science Foundation respectively.
Additionally, he is involved in a multidisciplinary team to work on large population cohorts of the UK namely, UK Biobank, ALSPAC and Born in Bradford to study different comorbidities associated with irritable bowel syndrome and identify its endophenotypes using machine learning algorithms.
